Media Takeout compared EJ Johnson to a “trans-prostitute” in an outrageous post on Sunday. It is just the latest homophobic and trans phobic story from the outlet.
The site blared in a headline, “Magic Johnson’s SON EJ Is Really OVER THE TOP… he Was Out In The Middle Of The Day… Looking Like A TRANS-PROSTITUTE!!!” Beneath a photo of Johnson as a child during an outing with his famous dad, the webloid posted recent pictures of the 24-year-old reality star stepping out in a leather and mesh, skin-baring outfit.
“We love how open and out there that EJ is — but there are LIMITS to decency. How in the world is that man walking around looking like that?” asks MTO. “EJ just lost a gang of weight, and we’re sure he wants to show off his new body. But there’s a time and place for everything.”
Yes, there is a time and place for many things. But there is NEVER a time to say someone, celebrity or not, looks like “trans-prostitute.”
Johnson, whose new E! show premiered on Sunday night, may be openly gay. But that’s not an invitation for media outlets to make sexuality-fueled derogatory remarks about his appearance.
Such language only fuels misunderstanding, and even hatred, of the LGBT community. And Media Takeout's inflammatory post came exactly a week after 49 people were murdered simply for being at a gay club. But this isn’t the first time the outlet has tried to shame a star in a homophobic or transphobic way.
Gossip Cop has previously pointed out offensive stories about Caitlyn Jenner, John Legend, Khloe Kardashian, Nick Young, Chelsea Handler, and other celebrities. There are many forms of irresponsible celebrity journalism. This is yet another one.
