Blood Service receives tractor head

J. A Plant Pool Ghana Limited, supplier of heavy duty, earth moving equipment and buses, has donated a 371 horse power Hoka Solitruck tractor head to the National Blood Service Ghana (NBSG), to enhance voluntary blood donation.

The tractor head, would help facilitate the movement of the blood service mobile clinic to communities, market squares and lorry stations to enable people register and donate blood voluntarily in their comfort zones.

Mr Lolu Akindele, Managing Director J.A Plant Ltd, who made the donation on behalf of the company, noted that, the initiative formed part of the company's corporate social responsibility to help the NBSG deliver on their mandate.

He promised that the company, would offer free maintenance service on the tractor so long as it would be used for the intended purpose, saying: “The tractor head is very durable and can take 400 tonnes capacity load.”

Dr Justina K Ansah, Director NBSG, on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the NBSG, expressed gratitude to J.A Plant Pool for the gesture, saying, “This is commendable and we appreciate it a lot."

Dr Ansah said the mobile donor clinic was donated to Ghana by Wales in 2013 but lacks a tractor head to move the clinic to the community and has therefore rendered it to be a white elephant.

She said with the equipment, the NBSG would be able to move to the communities to register donors and go through all processes of filling forms for blood donation.

“Blood donation is a community responsibility, therefore, and this whole idea is to make sure people donate blood voluntarily and comfortably and we will encourage other institutions to emulate this kind gesture”.

She commended J.A Plant Pool for heeding to the request and by donating the tractor head
