The Senior Special Assistant to Nigeria’s Senate President and President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Barr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere has been released by the DSS barely a month after he was arrested and detained. In a statement issued in Abuja and made available to DAILY POST, the Youth Leader condemned his arrest and detention on the grounds that his views on national issues were not in tandem with the philosophy of government of the day, noting that he would continue to defend his views where necessary.
“I vowed to continue the struggle and defense of my views on National development despite the fact that I was arrested and detained,” the statement said.
While recounting his ordeal in detention, he regretted the crude treatment meted on him as well his denial to have access to his family, lawyers and his personal doctors.
He added that as President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, he posed no threat to National security, emphasising that he was committed to the protection of rights and interests of all Nigerians.
“In the last one month that I was detained, I was denied access to my personal lawyers, doctors and my family and I want to say that I am committed to the interests of Nigerians even as I posed no threat to the nation’s national security,” he said.
