Simon, of Alibaruhu village, Agbaja community in Izzi Local Government Area, LGA, of the state, was said to have beheaded his 60-year-old stepmother, Mrs. Otubo Nwibo.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, ASP George Okafor, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect ‘is in police custody.’
According to the PPRO, Nwibo severed the head of his stepmother with a machete after a slight disagreement.
A resident of the area, Paulinus Ikwuruma, told New Telegraph that the late Nwibo had invited men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC to arrest the suspect following a disagreement.
Ikwuruma said on sighting the NSCDC men, the suspect escaped and later returned after they had left.
“On his return, Simon descended on his stepmother.
“He killed the woman and thereafter cut off her head,” the resident added.
Describing the incident as horrible, the PPRO said that the suspect resisted arrest but was overpowered by the police.
He said: “It was around 1700 hours on Saturday that Paulinus Ikwuruma reported to the police that Nwibo Simon, aged 32 unlawfully killed his father’s wife, Mrs. Otubo Nwibo, of about 60 years, with a machete.
“The victim was seen in a pool of her blood and the head almost separated from the body. The machete was also recovered,” the PPRO added.
