This followed a motion by Mr Nurudeen Saka-Solaja (APC-Ikorodu II), which was seconded by the Majority Leader, Mr Sanai Agunbiade (APC-Ikorodu I).
Moving the motion, Saka-Solaja said that the activities of cultists in Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) had continued to cause death of residents of the area.
According to him, economic activities in the area have been affected as businessmen and women have left.
“The activities of cultists have paralysed economic activities in Ikorodu as many people now live in fear; we don’t know what to do, people are dying while many have deserted their communities.
“I want this House to call on the Lagos State Government to direct the Commissioner of Police to relocate to Ijede to save the lives of people,’’ he said.
He said that members of Aiye and Eye fraternities always terrorised the residents in the night.
Saka-Solaja disclosed that traditional rulers and police in the area had taken steps on the matter but to no avail.
Contributing, Agunbiade said that unless the activities of the cultists in Ikorodu were curbed, it could cause serious security problem for the state.
The majority leader, who decried the decline in the nation’s value system, urged the state government to take a decisive step on the menace.
“It is a societal decadence; the government should take steps quickly on this issue before it becomes another Boko Haram in the state.
“When residents of the state cannot go about their lawful businesses, there is a problem,’’ he said.
In his view, Mr Rasheed Makinde (APC-Ifako/Ijaiye II) said that the Community Development Association (CDA) and Community Development Committee (CDC) needed to assist the police in making the community safe.
“CDA and CDC know the residents in the community. The best policing is the community, it has a lot to do,’’ Makinde said.
In his ruling, the Speaker of House, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, said “Ikorodu has become a notorious local government area now, because if it is not ritual killings, it will be Ajagun gbale (land grabbers).
“We will continue to call on the police to direct necessary department to the area to check the menace.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police to do the entire things to bring to an end all the activities of cultists in Ikorodu,’’ he said. (NAN)
