The people of Gwoza local government area of Borno state have said that they remain grateful to the Nigerian Army for liberating their town and called on the military to do everything possible to clear the 11 kilometer road from Limankara to Gwoza for traders to have a smooth ride to bring food supply to the area.
Spokesman of the traders association in Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Gadva, who spoke with DAILY POST on the phone said, he has been to Gwoza and assess the situation, expressing confidence that normalcy has returned to the one time Caliphate of the Boko Haram.
According to him, the military is building a barrack in Gwoza, the Police has hoisted their flag in Limankara even thought they are yet to return to the training school, the Emir’s palace is being rebuilt and there are an estimate of 20,000 people currently living in Gwoza, who are looking ahead for a normal life.
He said, there is no food enough for the people and the only route they can easily get food is the Madagali through Limankara to Gwoza, adding that, their major problem is the road between Limankara to Gwoza, which has remained a battle ground between the military and the remnant of Boko Haram militants.
“The road is only 11 kilometres but Boko Haram is still controlling the area. We want the government to do something about the road. We have complained once and nothing was done about it. Our people are suffering for short supply of food. Whenever we bring food, we have to wait for weeks for soldiers to come from Gwoza to escort the food, otherwise Boko Haram would seized it,” he said
Speaking on ‘Bayan Dutse’ axis, he said, yesterday, about 750 Boko Haram along with their wives and children surrendered themselves to the Nigerian Military and today more have brought themselves forward including two commanders making a total of 904 Boko Haram members along with their families.
