Militants in the oil rich region have been attacking crude oil installation over what they tagged, marginalisation of the region by the Federal Government.
The Federal Government in a bid to resolve militancy issue in the region, recently said it had commenced negotiation with agitators using the instrumentality of some oil companies and security agencies.
But rampaging militant group, Niger Delta Avengers denied the claim, saying the government was only negotiating with “mercenaries.”
However, UNDEDSS, in a statement by its Secretary General, Tony Uranta, said the group sent a proposal to the President on the way out of the crises a month ago.
The statement reads in part, “President Buhari knows what he needs to do to end the crisis today, if he so desires. He probably has not, because he has allowed his administration to be beset by too many petty rivalries, too many individuals jockeying for relevance and too many party chieftains of Niger Delta origin who don’t have the interests of the region at heart.
“The proposal is hinged on four vital prerequisites: the affirmation by Mr. President that there is no change in policy on the need to begin the matriculation of students this year in the National Maritime University at Okerenkoko, Delta State; the rebirth of the Niger Delta Council, with its five relevant sub-committees of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s 2009 template; the guarantee of safe passage for delegates to any dialogue location, after all armed parties publicly agree to a 60-day Armistice to be proposed by the federal government and the attendance of foreign observers, including diplomats from the European Union (EU), UK and USA, to be invited by the government to any such dialogue.”
