No fewer than 5, 000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) ahead of Edo State governorship election.
A former chairman of Egor Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, Mr. Igbinevbo, defected together with ward chairmen, women leaders, youths and other party officials from the council.
At the APC rally on Wednesday, Igbinevbo described the PDP as a “leopard who never changes its spot’’ because it lacks the capacity to do so.
“PDP is not interested in the development of the state rather, they want to further plunge the state into decay like they did years ago,’’ he said.
He said the PDP leaders in the state are “self-centred’’ and not “people-oriented,’’ which he said are reasons that made them to defect.
“With full senses of humility and responsibility, I believe physically and tactically, we are all here to bury the PDP.
“The PDP leaders are leopards who do not change their skin. PDP leaders are full of humiliation and deception. PDP leaders fight for their own intentions alone to the detriment of their followers.
“I have to let you know, I don’t bow down for people because of money; I bow down to people with heart of gratitude and integrity. I want to let you know we bowed to Oshiomhole because of his works in Edo State.
“16 years of PDP, we are all aware, in this state there was no road, no market, no school, no job, no electricity, no hospital, but when the comrade governor came on board, everything changed.
“I am aware of their game plan, but it will not come to pass. I want to say I stand here to declare myself and my followers to the APC and I want to let you know we trust the APC, they never promise and fail,’’ Igbinevbo said.
Adams Oshiomhole, the present state governor who welcomed the defectors, along with the APC governorship candidate, Obaseki, described their coming as the season of planting.
“You will also harvest with us when the season comes. The PDP is finished, there is nothing left, Oshiomhole said.
Obaseki however assured the defectors that they would not regret joining the party, especially as the election approaches.
