Kimbo Slice Dead

Kimbo Slice, né Kevin Ferguson, has died, MMA Fighting reports. He was 42. News of the professional mixed martial artist's death comes after reports, including one from ESPN, that Ferguson was hospitalized on Monday in South Florida.

Police told the sports network that the 42-year-old was taken to the hospital for undisclosed reasons, adding that due to the fact that he was a public figure, officers were sent to his home to prevent any gathering that may have occurred outside.

At the time of hospitalization, police were unable to provide extensive details, but they did tell ESPN that no 911 call was made and there is not an investigation into the matter.
American Top Team, the fighting team that Ferguson was associated with, tweeted their sadness at the loss.

"The ATT Family and South Florida lost a legend today," the tweet read. "RIP Kimbo."

Ferguson's popularity soared in the early 2000s when he was best known as a backyard fighter, with his brawls gathering thousands of views online.

He is currently signed to Bellator MMA and was scheduled to fight against James Thompson on July 16 as a headliner for the Bellator 158 event in London.

Aside from his fighting career, Ferguson dabbled in acting, including a role in the 2012 film The Scorpion King: Battle For Redemption.
