A 41-year-old driver has butchered his 77-year-old mother after accusing her of being responsible for his woes.In the process, Isaac Adu Gyamfi also inflicted knife wounds on his junior brother, Charles Adu Gyamfi.

The incident happened at Chirapatre Estate, a suburb of Kumasi, at about 4p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016.

Isaac allegedly inflicted knife wounds on his left hand, claiming that he was attacked by his younger brother, ostensibly to stop the police from arresting him.

Isaac was alleged to have been told by his pastor that his mother, Madam Ama Achiaa; Charles and another brother, who is based outside the country, were the cause of he not doing well in life and that if they were eliminated, it would pave the way for his progress.

According to reports gathered by the Daily Graphic, Isaac used to drive a taxi bought for him by his brother residing in Canada, but due to mismanagement, he could not sustain the business.

He later resorted to drinking and the use of drugs and occasionally attended prayer sessions at a worship centre (name withheld).

It was, however, unclear where the message that made him commit the murder was delivered to Isaac.

Narration

Narrating the incident to the Daily Graphic, the Assembly Member for the Ahinsan Electoral Area, Mr. James Okyere, said around 4p.m. last Saturday, he received a call from Charles that his elder brother had stabbed him and he had been rushed to the Kumasi South Hospital.

He said he proceeded to the hospital to check on the victim and later reported the case to the police.

According to Mr. Okyere, while there, Isaac reported at the hospital with a large wound on his left hand and said he had been attacked and that he had killed his mother.

Mr. Okyere said he sent his brother to the house to verify the claims and it was reported back that Madam Achiaa had been found lying in a pool of blood with a large wound on her left rib.

Confirmation

Confirming the incident, the Asokwa District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mr. George Bawa, who corroborated Mr. Okyere’s story, said Isaac was currently in police custody and the body of Madam Achiaa had been deposited at the Aniwa Medical Centre’s mortuary for autopsy.

He also said the police had retrieved a knife and a machete from the scene of the crime and indicated that the suspect was being detained for allegedly causing harm and murder.
