Man takes to Twitter to find new kidney

Lunga Needs Kidney
Just before midnight on Monday‚ #LungaNeedsAKidney started trending in South Africa on Twitter.Lunga Njikazi‚ a 24-year-old from the of KwaNyuswa (Botha's Hill)‚ KwaZulu-Natal‚ was pleading for a kidney donor due to him suffering renal failure.

In a poster which features his image‚ he said he gets haemodialysis twice a week‚ he can no longer urinate‚ he is urgently in need of a donor and a transplant.

Speaking to TMG Digital just after midnight‚ Njikazi‚ a qualified chef‚ said his parents passed away when he was still very young and he grew up under the care of his aunt.

"I was nine when my father was shot dead‚ and my mom lost a battle to HIV/Aids in 2003‚ when I was 13. My legs got swollen unusually just before I graduated in 2014. It took me a whole year to get sick‚ but‚ apparently‚ I had used Zulu muti that poisoned my kidneys‚" said Njikazi.

Njikazi said the muti he took was for cleansing.

"It is said to bring unto one's life luck. I only took it because there was too much at my disposal because my grandmother is a sangoma‚" he explained.

Njikazi said every fluid he consumes stays in his body and he has to constantly go for haemodialysis at Albert Luthuli Hospital.

"I took my plea to Twitter‚ much like the last kicks of a dying horse because I am battling to cope with the disease. It has turned my life upside-down. I'm a person who likes working‚ but because of the illness I'm forever tired and I can't even stand for 20 minutes. It has full blown to heights that I might develop heart failure‚" said Njikazi.

Njikazi said a new kidney will help him live a normal life‚ support his aunt who recently lost a job‚ and pursue his law studies.

Njikazi is no longer employed due to his weak immune system.

He said his blood type is O+.

Potential donors can get hold of him directly on 061 002 8841.
