The reconciliation process took place at the residence of the Chairman of the NPP’s Ashanti Council of Elders, Apenteng Appiah Menka in Kumasi on Sunday, May 8.

Chairman Wontumi was declared wanted by the Ashanti Regional Police Command following the allegation that he slapped the MP Collins Amankwah Owusu and the Manhyia NPP Constituency Secretary, Felix Ibrahim during the Electoral Commission (EC)’s first phase of the Limited Voter Registration exercise.

The police disclosed to Joy News they have been unable to locate his whereabout. However, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kofi Boakye said Chairman Wontumi approached the Tafo Pankrono Police Station and turned himself in.

He was locked overnight and arraigned before the Asokwa District Magistrate court in Kumasi on May 4 where he was granted a bail of Ghc20, 000 with two sureties. The first is that he should have a landed property or deposit an amount of ?10, 000.

In a surprise development, the two victims, acting through their lawyer, served a notice to have the case withdrawn for an out of court settlement.

Commenting on the issue, acting National Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay said the issue was an in-house matter and would be treated as such.

He warned that anybody who touches the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman would have the party itself to contend with.

NPP Constituency Secretary for Manhyia North, Felix Ibrahim, who is also one of the victims disclosed on the Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on May 5 that he asked for discontinuance of the case because there were threats on the life of his mother.

“My mum said she has been threatened and the pressure on her is too much so she begged me to drop the charges”, he revealed.

Myjoyonline gathered the parties concerned were equally given the opportunity to air their grievances which were later addressed by some experienced party elders at the meeting.

Mr. Menka used the opportunity to call for peace in the party ahead of the November 2016 polls
