Residents of the area, who fled to Biu, the headquarters of the local government, told reporters on phone that the attack occurred on Tuesday night at about 10 pm.
According to them, the attackers came on motorcycles and started shooting sporadically before setting the two villages ablaze.
There was no official confirmation from the military yet, but a soldier in Biu told DAILY POST that they heard of the attack on Wednesday.
According to him, soldiers were detailed to the area to maintain peace and check activities of the insurgents in the area, especially now that they are fleeing the Sambisa forests.
In another development, a suicide bomber killed himself at Sulemanti area of Maiduguri while carrying an improvise explosive device, IED. He is believed to be on a mission to attack a gathering in the area.
Residents said the terrorist may have mistakenly detonated the explosive before getting to his target.
“We thank God that it ended up with him, otherwise he would have killed many people if he had succeeded in attacking any of the Majalisa (group) in the area.” Kabiru Samaila, a resident told our correspondent.
