Africa's opponents at U-17 Women's WC in Jordan named

Ghana’s women U-17 football team, the Black Maidens, face defending champions Japan, USA and Paraguay in Group C at this year’s FIFA U-17 Women World Cup in Jordan.Ghana was drawn in Group D of the tournament on Monday at the King Hussein Cultural Centre in Amman, Jordan, overseen by His Highness Prince Ali bin Hussein, the President of the Jordanian Football Association.

Ghana will be making her fourth appearance at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, and are the only African country to have reached the semi-finals of the competition after winning bronze in the 2013 edition held in Azerbaijan.

Cameroon will lock horns with Venezuela, Germany and Canada.

Cameroon are making their debut at the tournament, having previously failed to qualify on two occasions.

The ‘Les Bebes Lionnes’ are hoping to make just as impressive a world-finals debut as their elders did at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, where they reached the last 16.

Another Africa powerhouse, Nigeria, are housed in Group D with Brazil, England and Korea DPR.

Nigeria have never failed to qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. At the finals themselves, they finished third in their group and failed to progress at New Zealand 2008.

Jordan 2016 will mark a fifth consecutive campaign at this tournament for the Nigerians.

Nigeria will take inspiration from their compatriots’ exploits at the U-20 Women’s World Cup Canada 2014, where the Falconets were runners-up.

Host nation Jordan will face Spain, Mexico and New Zealand in Group A.

The tournament, which is slated for September 30 to October 2, will see the Ghana’s Black Maidens join their opponents as they look forward to make it to the knockout stages of the competition.

Group B: Venezuela, Germany, Cameroon, Canada

Group C: Nigeria, Brazil, England, Korea DPR

Group D: USA, Paraguay, Ghana, Japan
