UNIPORT
A non-governmental organization, Occupy Nigeria has called for the suspension of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Ndowa Laale over the killing of Peter Ofurum, a student of the institution during a protest held this week.
The group made this call at a media briefing held in collaboration with student union bodies, NLC and other youth groups in Port Harcourt.
Co-facilitator of occupy Nigeria, Livingstone Wechie condemned the position of the management of UNIPORT on the issues that led to the protest of the students and the subsequent killing of Peter Ofurum

The group called on the police and other security operatives to release all the students arrested during a raid in and around the institution.
Wechie however appealed to the Federal government to set-up a commission of inquiry to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the UNIPORT crisis.
“In solidarity with the students of the University of Port Harcourt and the National Association of Nigerian Students, we condemn the brutal killing of Peter Ofurum who was until his death, the faculty President of the Management Science Students shot to death by a Police Officer during a peaceful protest.
“An independent Panel of Enquiry should be immediately set-up by the Federal Government to investigate the remote and immediate cause of this avoidable UNIPORT crisis as well as fish out the police officer that killed Peter Ofurum.

“That the Management of UNIPORT led by one Ndowa Laale in exhibiting gross institutional insensitivity in this incident should be immediately suspended from office so as to face the expected probe,” the group demanded.
