The draw was held in Nyon on Friday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side made it through to the last four following a dramatic 4-3 quarter-final victory over Borussia Dortmund while Villarreal defeated Sparta Praha, Shakhtar triumphed over Braga, as Sevilla knocked out Athletic Club.
The Reds managed to avoid a draw against Sevilla, who have a formidable record in the competition, winning it last season, but will face a tough task against the Yellow Submarines, who are currently fourth on the La Liga table following an impressive campaign.
Shakhtar, however recorded home and away victory over Braga in the quarter-final, winning 6-1 on aggregate.
They are rewarded with a difficult tie against Sevilla, who needed penalties to defeat domestic rivals, Athletic Bilbao.
The semi-final first legs will take place on April 28 at El Madrigal, Villarreal’s home, and the Lviv Arena, where Shakhtar play due to the unsafe conditions caused by the war in eastern Ukraine.
The return leg will take place a week later, with the final scheduled for May 18 at St Jakob’s Park in Basel.
