Leon Balogun banned for three matches

 

Leon Balogun will sit out Mainz’ next three games, after he was banned for violent conduct in their 2-1 defeat to Frankfurt.
The Super Eagles defender, was deemed to have deliberately kneed Frankfurt’s Carlos Zambrano towards the end of the match. Neither of them was cautioned or sent off by the referee.
Mainz and Balogun have 24 hours to appeal the verdict

  If the ruling is allowed to stand, the 27-year-old will miss games against Hamburger SV, Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin.
Balogun is among the 26 players called up by Nigeria, for next month’s friendly matches against Mali and Luxembourg.
