Is Cristiano Ronaldo favourite to win the Ballon D'or?

Cristiano Ronaldo's form this year has been so good, one might wonder how he performs at such a high level at the age of 31. Ronaldo has set a new record in the Spanish league, becoming the first player to have scored at least 30 goals in six consecutive season. Behind him in the list is Leo Messi, of Barcelona, who has scored 30 or more in four consecutive season.

Top Spanish paper Marca have published a report saying the 3 time Ballon D'or winner is the favourite to win the 2016 Ballon D'or saying Messi and Neymar and other possible candidates have been below par this season. Read the full report after the cut and tell us what you think?

'Cristiano Ronaldo's form at Real Madrid over the last few months might well have placed him in with a real chance of Ballon d'Or glory once again. And things had been going so well for rivals Barcelona.'
'Lionel Messi and Neymar, well on the way to another successful season with the Blaugrana, were stood on the podium in Zurich back in January awaiting the results alongside their Madrid counterpart.'
Messi, unsurprisingly, won the world' best player award for a fifth time, with his Brazilian teammate making history just by standing alongside him and Ronaldo.

'At that point, not only did retaining the Champions League trophy for the first time in its current format look possible, but so did an unprecedented second successive treble.Fast-forward three months, though, and everything has gone wrong.'

Elimination from European competition at the hands of Atletico Madrid last Wednesday was the low point, but that misery was compounded by a home defeat to Valencia on Sunday evening.

'Now, what looked like an uncatchable nine-point lead in La Liga has been cut to zero, the Catalans leading second-placed Atleti purely by virtue of the head-to-head rule.Real can't be ignored either, sitting a point further back.

'The race for the Ballon d'Or, which is never too far away from the minds of either Ronaldo or Messi in any event, has swung in the Portuguese international's favour. While Messi has been playing with injury lately, Ronaldo has stormed ahead in the goal scoring charts, both domestically and on the continent.'

''He was the inspiration behind Real's stunning Champions League quarterfinal comeback against Wolfsburg, scoring a hat-trick.This is a personal award which hinges on the big moments of course, and with arguably the biggest club competition in the game still to fight for, and his goal in the recent Clasico victory, Ronaldo could well be favourite.''

As Ronaldo hunts more success, both Neymar and Messi will be looking to rekindle their spark with six games left in the title race.
