Man in court for allegedly defrauding woman of N295,000

A 32-year-old man, Benjamin Olasemo, was on Thursday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a woman of N295,000.
The suspect, a transporter, who lives at 16, Shola Arodoye Obadeyi St., Abule Egba, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu told the court that the offences were committed between Feb. 22, to December 2015 at Ikeja.
 
He said that the suspect borrowed the money from one Miss Opeyemi Adeleke under the pretext of marrying her.
“The suspect claimed he loved the complainant and borrowed N295,000 from her on the pretex he had some domestic issues to solve.
“The suspect later told the complainant that their relationship cannot go further without giving any reasons for it,” he said.
Ogu said that since then the complainant had asked the suspect to refund her money to no avail.

   The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 285 and 321(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The suspect however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni granted the suspect N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till April 18 for mention.
