The Weekend sets record for most streams in a day on Spotify with new album

Canadian music star, The Weeknd has set a new record for most Spotify streams in a single day, according to the streaming service.


The achievement follows the release of his third album, titled Starboy, which was released on November 25th 2016. The artiste with the most streams was previously Justin Bieber who hit 36 million streams on November 13 2015, the number of streams The Weeknd got has not yet been announced by Spotify.

The 18-track album features prominent acts like Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Kendrick Lamar, Future and more.

Republic Records’ chairman Monte Lipman in a statement said, “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming.”

Meanwhile, Spotify’s global head of creator services Troy Carter added “We’re proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album. We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future.”
