New Balance star and Australia international Massimo Luongo says he can't wait for a "once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" ahead of his side’s showdown with England and his "world class" former Tottenham team-mate Harry Kane. The Socceroos travel to Sunderland's Stadium of Light on Friday to face Roy Hodgson’s side in the Three Lions’ penultimate Euro 2016 warm-up match.

And the Queens Park Rangers midfielder, who came through the youth ranks at Tottenham alongside Kane, believes the prolific local hero has proven his pedigree by shining at every level of the game.

"I’ve known Harry Kane for a while and for him to do what he’s done in the past two seasons has been unreal," Luongo told Goal as part of the New Balance Furon 2.0 and new Visaro colourway boot launch.

"I think it’s been expected. If you knew him you’d know he’s always had the talent to do what he’s done.

"I think his pathway was the perfect pathway. If you were to tell youngsters what to follow, it would be his pathway.

"At every stage, in every youth team, he’s always shined and he’s always scored and that’s the one thing you can’t take away from him. If you can do that at any level you’re going to be world class."

Four members of the Spurs team that challenged Leicester City for the Premier League title have a chance of being included in Hodgson's final squad and Luongo believes they all have something to offer at a major tournament.

“They have Dele Alli, I’ve played against him for a few seasons in League One and he always had the qualities, so if you combine all of those along with Eric Dier, Danny Rose, Kyle Walker – they all have something unique to add to a team,” Luongo added.

“I’m really excited about playing England, it's probably a once-in-a-lifetime event. Australia beat England 3-1 (in 2003) and it’s still something people talk about so I think it’s a nice game to be involved in.”
